Safety Notice: Driving in Snowy Weather

Now, many of you will be experiencing snow and ice as we head into a period of freezing weather and unfortunately, this brings additional challenges, including icy driving conditions and reduced EV battery performance.

To help keep everyone safe and minimise avoidable incidents or delays, please take a moment to review the two important updates below.

Safety Notice: Driving in Snowy Weather
With snow and ice forecast throughout the week, please remember that braking distances increase significantly on icy roads, up to 10 times in fact! Even at moderate speeds, such as 20 mph, it can take up to 120m to stop, so please be careful and stay vigilant.

Also, please ensure vehicles are fully defrosted before leaving the site. This is essential for your safety, the safety of on-site staff, other road users, and to prevent avoidable incidents.

Winter EV best practice
As the freezing temperatures set in, cold weather will significantly reduces EV battery performance, meaning charge levels can drop much faster than expected, especially when already low. To keep everyone safe and avoid delays, please follow the guidance below.

Picking Up from Fleet Sites

  • All vehicles collected from fleet sites must have a minimum of 25% charge.

  • If the vehicle is below 25%, report it to the operations team immediately so we can notify the customer.

  • If the fleet site cannot charge the vehicle to 25% and you do have enough range to reach the nearest charger, please go directly there before continuing the move.

  • If you do not have enough charge to reach a charger safely, call the operations team immediately.

Picking Up from Customer Locations

  • If the vehicle is low on charge, go straight to the nearest charger - do not risk running out.

  • If the vehicle does not have enough charge to reach a charger, contact operations immediately.

Charging Guidance While on a Move

  • Always plan to charge well before the battery becomes low.

  • We’ve had cases where drivers reached a charger only to find it in use or out of service. Leaving an extra buffer range prevents this issue.

  • Always use the fastest charger available.

    • If you had to use a slow charger because the vehicle was already undercharged, please charge only enough to reach a fast charger, then continue charging there.

Recommended App

Please download Octopus Electroverse as it provides the most up-to-date charging map. It also shows which chargers are compatible, fastest, and currently operational.
