Nicholas Holmes 🏆

What do you love most about the job?

I really enjoy travelling to different destinations, meeting new people, and engaging in conversations about their new vehicle.

I also love the variety of vehicles that I get to drive.

How do you ensure you deliver vehicles on time?

My priority is to plan my day by checking out the quickest routes and the most cost-effective route of travel.

I am also checking for problems which may delay me and alternative routes/quicker methods of transport to deliver on time.

What has been your best experience with Engineius so far?

I have only worked for the company for the past four months and still have much more to experience working for Engineius.

However, it was a great surprise to win Driver of the Month, and I felt that all the long hours and hard work had been recognised, it does make you feel appreciated.

Engineius have a great team that all work together to achieve one goal, which is the type of ethos I admire, and I am sure over the coming months, I will have more experiences to look forward to.

How many miles do you do on average a week?

It’s tough to gauge as no one day is the same. It all depends on the various routes that day, but I can easily do 200 to 300 miles per day - on average around 1,250 miles a week.

What do you think are the secrets behind getting to where you’ve got to?

I have a supportive wife and family, and I have always had a can-do attitude, whatever the type of job it is that needs doing. I always plan my day as soon as possible to ensure I am organised and get up and off at the earliest opportunity.

Also, it is easier when you receive helpful support from the team at Engineius, who are ready to make quick decisions, helping me to travel between my jobs more efficiently.

What drives you to succeed in this job?

I have always had a passion for driving and fortunate to have had lots of experience driving a variety of vehicles, from stretched limousines and corporate vehicles during my business tenure of over 17 years, to large plant vehicles for an international company, such as 250-tonne excavators, large wheel loaders, forklifts, telehandlers, dumper trucks, cranes, and many more, none of which ever fazed me.

At Engineius, I’ve had the opportunity to drive the latest EVs and even prestige sports cars. I am driven by ensuring the customer receives the highest standard of service and being able to answer any questions or concerns they may have to put them at ease. In turn, I believe I am representing the company to the best of my abilities.

Do you reconcile your jobs and expenses on a regular basis?

Being self-employed, it is really important for me to reconcile my jobs, hours and personal expenses daily to ensure all my accounting is up-to-date.

What are you most excited about this year?

I am most excited about going away on holiday with my family, as family time is very important especially when I have three children whose birthdays are within three days of each other.

Also, my birthday is in the same month! So one big celebration has been a yearly event for all the extended family to join us too 🎂

What makes Engineius a special place to work?

Engineius has a great camaraderie amongst the team from the planners, ops, etc. Everyone is very easy going, which makes it a great place to work!

What is the best advice you can give other drivers?

My advice would be to get up early as it makes your life easier. When jobs go wrong, i.e. if a job gets aborted when you’ve set off travelling and have to go to a different destination or if there are major travel disruptions from trains cancelled or road delays, leaving early allows you greater flexibility to change plans and hopefully get to the last pick-up before your time slot ends, such as dealerships that close at a specific time.
